Punktur IJslandse Paarden

Our herd

We have had foals all the way back since 1976. This shows our fascination for Icelandic horses is strongly linked with breeding of them. We started breeding with a mare of a nice color (bay dun) we used a good stud with her (Rauđdreki), resulting in a good foal. This gelding Skeggur, did very well in children's class competition.

We started our breeding with the stable name of 'van de Lappenvoorde', but since 1997 we have a farm and our horses now carry the name 'frá Punktur'. All our horses and their pedigree can be found in the database of www.icelandic-horses.com.

We wanted to breed better horses, for that purpose we bought a nice mare in Germany. We bred her also to Rauđdreki, but we were not satisfied with the quality of the resulting foals and gradually this mare and her offspring disappeared from our breeding stock (Blotna, Kraka, Kolla and children). The selling of good geldings and some mares gave us time and again the means to buy new and better horses, for instance Hrisning, of whom Vör is a daughter. We have had quite some good luck; we were able to buy an unborn foal, breed by the owners of Rauđdreki. This was the mare Netla-Blesa, the mother of our approved stud Rauđvingull N. van de Lappenvoorde. Together with our friends, with whom we shared the fields, we were able to buy the one-year-old Katla, the mother of for instance Laukur and Álmur frá Punktur, and Eydís, the mother of Hređka and Fura. Through some sad circumstances we were able to also buy Litla-Mjöll Terta, a mare closely related to Netla. Terta delivered us among others the pinto Fró and Lind. We were also able to buy Óđa, luckily for a friendly price. She is the mother of for instance Hvönn. So at the start we bred a lot with Rauđdreki. Even now one sees his influence in the pedigree of our horses. After he was sold to Denmark, we used his sons; Ljóslubbi and later on the flying pace miracle Litli-Gummi.

We decided to also start using some fresh blood. For a start we took some mares to other studs, like Uri fra SÓlbergi; a totally unknown Belgian stud and the father of Vör. For one year Tjaldur van de Grolhorst was standing with us. This resulted in for instance Fró and Narfi. Because of sad circumstances Yngri-Dreki was for sale. All of a sudden we owned our own stud! And again a son of Rauđdreki!

Yngri turned out to be a major success; Hvönn, Reynir, Kobbi, Oddar, Lind, Álmur, Laukur, Askur; every one of them horse with good movements and surely of better build than their mothers… After four years the daughters of one's stud have to be served, therefore we sold Yngri to Kimbel Kwaak, she rides him with good results in sportsclass competition in tölt and fourgaits. Then we had Vingull and since Álmur (M Katla) was approved as well, we had him serve also 2 mares as a test…. In 1999 and 2000 we also took each year 2 good mares to 'external' studs. In 1999 we went to Seilur and we went to Stökull frá Feti in 2000. We hope that these servings will grow to become our future studs! In 2003, 2004 and 2005 the stud Nonni frá Fitjum served most of our mares.

2006 and 2007 the stud Geisli frá Hólabaki served our mares, his father is Andvari fra Ey; a well known son of Orri. Nexz to that we used some young studs with some mares, we are curious how these foals will develop.
